It seems there is no ending to the worry of Justin Thomas. The former World number one golfer is going through a rough patch. Things got bad to worse for the American international as he missed the cut at the 3M Open. After going through a torrid Open Championship, Thomas decided to challenge for the 3M Open. He thought once again struggled at the greens.

As a result of this, Thomas’ ranking at the FedEx Cup is likely to take a big hit. He is currently ranked 75th in the standings. The top 70 players will make it into the next phase of the cup competition after the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship. Thomas has now missed five cuts in his last seven starts, signaling the poor form of his.

This has now also dampened his chances at the Ryder Cup. An important member in the last tournament, Thoms now stands on the verge of not making it through at all. His automatic qualification is certainly over, but he could be picked by captain Zach Johnson. He and several others have stood with Thomas in these tough times.

Thomas finished the 3M open with a first-round score of 69. He even made four birdies in the last five holes but was undone by two shots in the water. He eventually concluded the second round with a score of 71 and missed the cut. The pressure on him to deliver increases even further at the Wyndham Championship next week.

How is the 3M Open shaping up?

While the majors might have come to a conclusion, there are still a few events to be played. As the schedule inches closer to a conclusion, several players have started preparations for the FedEx and Ryder Cup. As a result of this, some big names are missing from this event. However, there are some who are trying to snatch a win and get some much-needed boost for the upcoming cup competition.

Lee Hodges, who is currently 74th in the FedEx Cup standings, knows a win will significantly raise his chances. After two rounds at the TPC Twin Cities, he is leading the leaderboard with a four-stroke lead. After firing a first-round score of 63, he followed it up with a seven-under 64 score on Friday. This is the lowest score at the 3M Open, beating the score of 128 after two rounds set by Bryson DeChambeau.

Meanwhile, 2014 FedEx Cup champion Billy Horschel finds himself in the 119th spot in the standings. He is currently tied for seventh, six strokes behind Hodges. Even two miraculous performances and wins might not guarantee him a spot in the playoffs. The 36-year-old though would be hoping for a strong finish in the two events to sign off strongly this year.
