Keith Mitchell’s dreams of playing in the Masters hang in the balance as he faces mounting pressure to secure a spot in the coveted tournament. Mitchell, who is presently rated 47th worldwide, knows that he must perform well at the Dell Match Play in Austin to qualify for the tournament.
Mitchell struggled at the TPC Sawgrass after recent impressive showings, including a tie for fourth at Pebble Beach and a fifth-place result at Riviera. He thought he would miss the cut after making a bogey on the par-5 ninth hole from the middle of the fairway. Mitchell had the opportunity to secure two more rounds, though, because of Luke List’s double bogey. He remained at No. 47 in the standings after finishing in a tie for 35th position.
Now, Mitchell faces an uphill battle to qualify for the Masters. With only the 50 best players being invited to play, he must perform well in the Dell Match Play to secure his spot. The pressure is palpable, and Mitchell knows that he must overcome it if he hopes to play in the tournament.
