The year 2023 will always be remembered by golfing fans. In June this year, the PGA Tour dropped a huge bombshell when they announced a merger with LIV Golf. The two tours had been fighting with each other before that and filed several lawsuits against each other. Former PGA Tour Policy board member Kevin Kisner has called this fight a “total waste of time”.
Kisner served as a policy board member of the PGA Tour from 2020 until last year. During his tenure, LIV Golf was established and threatened to take over the golfing world. He has now recalled working hard during this period and firing his shots at the merger between them.
“Super weird. Working so hard on that board. Spending so much time and effort on it over the last three years and then being off it,” Kisner said while speaking at the Fore Play Podcast. He emphasized how he and others fought the PIF and LIV Golf for three years and all of a sudden they are now together. “Total wastage of time for three years basically,” he added.
Kevin Kisner believes PGA-LIV merger will have lasting impression on Jay Monahan’s reputation

To say that the merger announcement did not shake the golf world would be a massive understatement. As soon as the development was informed to the public, social media went into a frenzy. The fans would call out Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour. Kevin Kisner now believes that he has done irreparable damage to his own reputation.
The 53-year-old was slammed as a ‘hypocrite’ by the fans for this deal. The reason he gave for the merger regarding PIF’ “unlimited money” was also not welcomed by the audience. “I don’t think the public perception, no matter how this ends, is ever going to make Jay Monahan look like a genius again,” Kisner said.
Perhaps Kisner’s statement might come true. Monahan was recently spotted at the Tour Championship finale. He was greeted with heavy boos from the crowd present at East Lake. This signaled the broken relationship between him and the fans. Though the commissioner ignored the hostile reception, he does know that the damage was already done.
He now is not only trying to get back in the good graces of the fans but also the players. There were several players who said that have less trust in him now following the merger. The top boss also admitted that he felt bad for keeping them on their back foot during the deal. How will he get back the fans and players on his side will be interesting to see.
