“You can’t have your cake and eat it too”: LIV Golf Players lose lawsuit against PGA Tour, will not be allowed to play at 2022 FedEx Cup
LIV Golf players seek restraint order to play playoffs
The recent situation in the tension filled golf world has turned out to be quite the disaster for LIV Golf and its three players- Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones. After defecting to the LIV Series, the PGA Tour sanctioned and suspended several of the players. This meant that they would not be a part of the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs. However, 11 golfers led by Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau recently filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA.
The hearing for Gooch, Swafford and Jones took place on Tuesday, where LIV argued for the golfers to be able to play in the FedEx Cup. However, it all ended in disappointment for the golfers, especially as the LIV lawyers seemed to do a shoddy job of carrying out the trial. This meant that their case was thrown out by a federal judge, and they cannot be a part of the cup anymore.
“The nerve they have”: Twitter shows little sympathy for LIV Golf players who will miss out on the FedEx Cup
Twitter really did not show much sympathy towards the players. The federal judge stated that the golfers knew the irreparable damages that would be caused if they joined the LIV series, and believed that they were recuperated well enough for it. This of course came as disappointing news to LIV, but good news for the legal battle for the PGA.
This also meant that 10 spots had become vacant for the playoffs, and incredibly as a golden opportunity Rickie Fowler made the cut, becoming the 125th golfer on the list. “With today’s news, our players’ fans and partners can now focus on what really matters over the next three weeks: the best players in the world competing in the FedExCup Playoffs,” the PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said after the trial.
