“ARRGHH LIV Golf”- LIV in a media right dilemma, TV rights struggles decoded

LIV Golf has been in the eye of controversial hurricanes for a while now, also known for being one of the most lucrative leagues in golf. It’s a multimillion-dollar Saudi-backed league that has caught the limelight for struggling to make money. What a paradox we’d say! The fundamental accountancy involved in companies making loads of money revolves around TV rights.
Companies and leagues share the dollar bed by exchanging the exclusive rights to share or stream golf events on their network. In all of the futile efforts made by LIV to partner with a network corp, Apple TV had refused the league to stream its events a few weeks ago, calling it ‘too toxic‘.
The negotiations with other famous networks including ESPN, CBS, NBC, and Fox went South due to human rights-based concerns calling Saudi money blood money and LIV being soiled in it. The challenges that the tour faces now are five-faced during which they decided to stream on their official website and youtube.
Five-way challenge road for LIV Golf to stream
First of all, the ratings suffered a hit and sagged considerably after LIV Boston, Chicago and Bedminster almost reached a half in the following events and then further to less than 20 percent. Secondly, PGA Tour has definitely introduced some significant changes and people are shifting back to the traditional format, for the love of the sport or other alleged considerations.
The advertising revenue has fallen to nil for the golf tour with almost no pecuniary gains from the audiences. The declining number of audience indicates the similar challenge that LIV Golf faces and why networks show a cold face. Being said that, networks have a tight schedule, and the league hasn’t been able to fit in.
The final and closing argument in this obviously is LIV’s controversial image, which follows its negotiations on the tables as well. The claims of Apple and the daily buzz that surrounded the tour before Greg Norman and the tour members decided to make major changes have definitely awarded the tour a lot of negative publicity. There are a few pros to the scene too, but let’s leave them for another time!
