With Saudi-backed LIV Golf on the verge of landing a media deal – the management has decided to tweak their season-ending team event as they are looking to liquidize the competition to three days in part.

However, there was no official statement from LIV Golf. On Tuesday, they announced that the LIV Golf Invitational Team Series will be taking place at Trump National Doral from October 28-30. It will be a three-day affair with a prize money of $50 million, and it’s going to be a seeded knockout competition.

The event was always on the cards since the inception of LIV Golf in March but there were question marks over the structure of the tournament. There seems better clarity now.

The original plan from the organizers regarding the tournament was to have two teams competing against each other with the winner to be decided on the last day.

However, media partners were not keen on this idea and wanted to have around eight golfers competing against each another on the final day. The Saudi-backed league altered its structure according to their demands.

Match play and stroke play will be featured in the event, with the winners earning $16 million, or $4 million each, as well as $10 million and $8 million for second and third.

Head-to-head matchplay competitions will be held for teams ranked fifth through 12th. Here is how it will work on the first day:

1: All 32 players will start in foursomes with a shotgun start.

2. Two players compete at singles in each head-to-head match, while two more form a foursomes (alternate shot) team.

3. A team captain will face another captain in singles, and then decide whether his other three players will compete in singles or as a foursome.

4. No ties are present. All games are played to a conclusion, and the team with at least two out of a possible three points advances to Saturday’s action. Each singles match earns one point, and the foursomes match earns one point as well.

5. On the second day, the same structure is followed, with the top four seeds competing against the remaining four teams for three points in each head-to-head encounter. The teams which earn two out of a possible three points progress to Sunday’s championship round.

6. All 16 players will participate in stroke play in a shotgun start between the four surviving teams. They will play as twosomes, and each player’s score will count.

7. The winning team will be the one with the lowest total score from all four players.
