The LIV Golf Series has found another new golfer amongst the rising controversy and pressure, as Henrik Stenson is the newest to make the switch. Jason Kokrak and Charles Howell III, along with Stenson were recently announced by the LIV Golf in a statement on Wednesday. As a result the 46-year-old was removed as captain of the Ryder Cup Europe soon after. Stenson was the 2016 Open Winner, and appointed as the Ryder Cup captain in March.

Stenson wrote a statement recently, explaining his decision to join the LIV Series. “After much consideration I have decided to join several of my fellow professionals and play in the LIV invitational series starting at Bedminster in a week or so’s time. My interest in this concept has been well documented over the past few years and despite some of the unfortunate and ongoing tension between LIV Golf, the DP World Tour & PGA lours, ultimately, the opportunity to play in LlV events moving forward is something that I want to expenence,” said his statement as he wrote several long paragraphs about why he chose to join the controversial Saudi backed series.

Max Homa did not buy the reason why Stenson was leaving the PGA Tour to join the new pro series. He came onto twitter himself to mock the long winded announcement and statement from the 46-year-old. Homa replied to Stenson’s message with a popular meme depicting a series of text messages: “I ain’t reading all that. i’m happy for you tho. or sorry that happened,” read the reply tweet from Homa.

Stenson’s defection unfortunately means that he is no longer the captain for the Ryder Cup– a position that he had secured just a few months ago. Stenson was sure that he would be able to hold his position as captain even while competing in the LIV Series, but the panel decided that it would not be possible and removed him with immediate effect.
