Max Homa expresses his excitement for Genesis Invitational as it begins on Thursday, February 2023 continuing to Sunday 19. The star golfer cited NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s motivational quote, one of the many lessons he learned from Bryant’s School of Courage.

He’ll be teeing off at Riviera Country Club following his 2023 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He talked about how he fueled himself for the upcoming challenges with February’s T-39 at the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Not only will Homa stand on the greens, but the carpet will be filled with star-studded players including the GOAT himself, Tiger Woods. Earlier the week he talked about his friendship with Woods, and how having him on the field has affected him. He reveals how he took Wood as both his rival and his idol.

Citing help from Kobe Bryant, Max Homa noted, “Kobe talked about it. Fear is a great motivator. And I think that fear of failure and that fear of losing your job and not winning again, if you use it in the right way, can be incredibly beneficial to your career”.

He continued stating, “It makes me want to work harder. It makes me, after Torrey, immediately get nervous about going to Phoenix and maybe not playing well. And that keeps me on my toes. So I think all those things become good when you’re using them in the right way.”

Fans took to Twitter to congratulate and wish the golfer all the best for the upcoming match. Currently 12th in World Ranking and 2nd at FedEx Cup standing, Homa is equipped to head into Genesis Invitational. His popularity matches his achievements, one of them being his 6 PGA Tour wins.

He notes how he admires Bryant and points out how the legendary basketball player put hours behind his tough practices, performing them on-screen flawlessly, “I try to take that with me and I try to embrace the craziness and the pressure and all of that because that’s what I saw him do and I was enamored by that.”

Homa further mentions how it has helped him win against the former World No.1 Rory McIlroy in 2019 at Wells Fargo Championship. He comments on Riviera’s challenge, “I guess I learned what professional golf was at The Riv.”

“That’s where I watched all my favourite players, met Payne Stewart there, saw Tiger Woods for the first time there, would watch all like my favorite golfers come through. And that’s where I always wanted to play. I didn’t even get to play the golf course till my junior year of college for national championships. So, it was just a very special golf course to me.”

Max Homa states that maybe to some people he idolizes his rival Tiger Woods may seem like a “corny and dorky” move, but he is happy to have known the GOAT and call him his friend. Woods who have suffered numerous injuries and had to sit out of the field, is back in the game once again, taking the world of golf by storm.
