“A review of the changes to the MENA Tour is now underway by the OWGR,” the release said. “Notice of these changes given by the MENA Tour is insufficient to allow OWGR to conduct the customary necessary review ahead of the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok (Oct. 7-9) and LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah (Oct. 14-16).”

“Only after the review is complete will a decision be made on awarding points to the MENA Tour’s new “Limited Field Tournaments”, defined by the MENA Tour in its Regulations as “any MENA Tour-approved tournament, which comprises of a player field of less than 80 players.”

The Saudi-backed league is not currently recognized by OWGR as they have been raising eyebrows since they made their inception in the world of golf. With no ranking points in contention – it means that players are at risk of falling off the leaderboard and missing out on entry into the Major.

As of now, Tour has suspended all the golfers who have chosen to swap PGA for a money-rich league. There has been a number of players who have left the PGA Tour to join the LIV, including former World No.1s Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson.

However, the LIV golf CEO Greg Norman and the golfers have insisted that the rebel league should be considered for OWGR points. The LIV officials even wrote to the OWGR Chairman asking that the event be retroactively awarded points.
