LIV Golfers- The PGA Tour earlier this year announced its schedule for the 2022-23 season and has heavily increased the purse or one can say the prize money to help them beat the competition for the cash-rich league LIV Golf.
There are 44 regular season events, including four majors, with a record $415 million in prize money and $145 million in bonuses. Three FedEx Cup playoff events will award him $75 million in prize money.
The Tour was pretty quick in their decision-making as they knew LIV Golf has lured golfers by offering them a huge sum of money thanks to backing from Saudi Arabian money.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan earlier this year said: “We’ve heard from our fans and the overwhelming sentiment was that they wanted more consequences for both the FedEx Cup regular season and the playoffs, and to further strengthen events that traditionally feature top players competing head-to-head. We feel strongly we’ve accomplished all of these objectives and more, creating a cadence of compelling drama for every tournament throughout the season.”
Ranking points denied at Bangkok and Jeddah for LIV golfers
Since the inception of the LIV Golfers, their CEO Greg Norman is all in lobbying for the league and also want the golfers who have shifted their loyalties to be included in ranking points.
However, in the latest turn of events, Liv golfers have been hit by reality as the Official World Golf Ranking are in no hurry to change their system so fast just to accommodate the rebel league
Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) has clearly stated that the LIV golfers won’t be rewarded any points for their upcoming events in Bangkok and Jeddah. The OWGR in a statement couple of days fact said:
“A review of the changes to the MENA Tour is now underway by the OWGR,” the release said. “Notice of these changes given by the MENA Tour is insufficient to allow OWGR to conduct the customary necessary review ahead of the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok (Oct. 7-9) and LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah (Oct. 14-16).“
The Tour immediately stopped golfers who decided to trade the PGA with the controversial. Many golfers decided to shift their bases, including former world No. 1 Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson.
