“You have to come”- Patrick Reed vocalizes upon ‘The Dustin Johnson Influence’ on his decision to join LIV Golf

Prior to joining LIV golf, Patrick Reed was in a spot of bother with all the cheating allegations that had surrounded him. However, ever since he made the switch from PGA to the Saudi Arabia-backed cash-rich league, things have started taking a turn for the better combined with some good performances on the greens.

Recently, Reed revealed that former World No.1 and friend Dustin Johnson was the one who actually inspired him to join LIV golf and also talked to authorities about it that helped him seal the deal.

Johnson and Reed were both part of the ‘4Aces’ team that recently won the LIV Golf Team Championship event at Trump National Doral in Miami. All four members of the team including Talor Gooch and Pat Perez also won $4 million each after winning the tournament.

“DJ (Dustin Johnson) says, you have to come,” Reed said while revealing the circumstances that led to him joining LIV.  “I knew it was going to be a good decision, the right thing to do. I just needed DJ to push me over the edge a little bit,” Reed disclosed.

Patrick Reed recently withdrew from a tournament blaming “soft mattresses” at the hotel for his decision

One of the strangest reasons imaginable is that a soft mattress in a French hotel caused LIV Golf star Reed to injure his back leading up to the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Lynx at St Andrew’s this year. It meant, he had to withdraw from the championship.

It would have been his third European Event in four weeks if the 32-year-old golfer has participated in Dunhill Lynx. The earlier two Championships he played in were the BMW PGA Championship and Open de France.

“The mattress was just too soft for me,” Reed said. “I played well in the pro-am but the pain in my back was getting worse.”

“It’s disappointing as I was looking forward to coming back to France after being there for the Ryder Cup. “I first played the Dunhill Links back in 2011. It was my first European Tour event, so that’s another event I was looking forward to playing,” he added.

Reed joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf earlier this year for a whopping sum of £50 million. After joining the rebel league, the American golfer said that he is joining them to spend quality time with his family.

However, despite cashing in on millions, his world ranking has suffered big time as he is no more ranked in the world’s top 50 golfers. Reed will slip even further after being forced out with an injury.
