The golf season is reaching its conclusion. The season finale of the PGA Tour saw Viktor Hovland take home the crown of the FedEx Cup. There is another tour that is playing this sport – LIV Golf. The breakaway circuit has received a huge backlash from the fans since its inauguration. Golfer Patrick Reed though was full of praises for the league in his recent Instagram post.
Reed, 33, was one of those who left the PGA Tour to play in the newly founded league. Since then he along with several others have been slammed for their decision to play on the Saudi-backed tour. The LIV star would mention how he felt warmed after meeting his children and how much they enjoyed the recent tournament in Greenbrier.
The 2018 Masters winner would share several points in his Instagram post. Nicknamed “Captain America” for his performances in the Ryder Cup, Reed would give an explanation of the LIV Golf. Whether this was done by him as a promotion or he genuinely loves the tour is something that cannot be said at the moment.
“I was visiting with my children last night, and I must say my heart is warmed,” he wrote in the caption before adding about the qualities of the tour. He also posted several images of himself at different LIV Golf events.’
Twitter reacts to Patrick Reed’ surprising Instagram post
The LIV Golf has been labeled as “evil” by some fans for trying to change the traditional way of the game. The sport is also expected to go through some major changes next year following the announcement of the PGA-LIV merger. This merger deal has raised questions regarding the future of the PIF-funded tour. By the looks of Patrick Reed’s post, it does not seem to be going away.
Fans have time and again slammed the league. This post by Reed does not do them any favor as the users continued to have a dig at him on social media. One user trolled him for the post and wrote “The Saudi PR guide” in regards to the post. Here are some reactions to this development.
The two things that have made LIV Golf different from the PGA Tour are the style of play and the money involved. The breakaway tour does not feature cuts as opposed to their rivals and plays only 54 holes compared to the traditional 72.
Speaking of money, a normal PGA Tour event yields the winner with a $3.6 million prize. On LIV Golf, the winners receive $4 million for their triumph. This has given them a huge edge over the PGA and with the league set to implement a transfer window next season, more players could join them.
