The PGA Tour has introduced drastic changes in the 2024 season, some which are rather drastic. The unexpected rule change comes at a shaky time for the Tour, as the LIV Series continues its battles against the Tour. It has caused tensions, rifts and everlasting rivalries that cannot be taken back.

The biggest rule change will be that there will be no more cuts in over half the events that take place during the Tour. The other rule is that the field of players will get cut in half. Now, the field will be restricted to 78 players at most. However, this does not apply to the Majors, the Players Championship or the FedEx Cup.

The PGA Tour has managed to draw criticism for it, and people are not kind. PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan has supported these changes.

In a memo he said, “there is no doubt in my mind that we made decisions that will transform and set the future.” But, this news also means that the $75 million in the Players Impact Program will be cut in half. The other half will go the the prize money for the FedEx Cup and other tournaments.

The remaining money on the other hand will only be given to 10 players, not 20. Needless to say, a lot of people were not happy about it. Many fans thought that the PGA Tour was now copying the LIV Golf series, who originally came up with a new format of play.

Last year, the LIV Golf series decided to keep no cut tournaments. They also added rules of shorter courses and larger prize funds. That, along with a team style play means that LIV Golf saw a whole new character of golf. Now that the PGA Tour has implemented similar rules, fans are calling them out for copying.
