The introduction of the LIV Golf Series has certainly caused a shift in the golf world. The LIV Series has been one that is generous with its payouts and salaries. And now, it seems that the PGA Tour is following suit.

The 2023 WM Phoenix Open sees one of the most exciting scenes of 2023. 23 of the top 24 golfers in the world are going to be in attendance, including the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. Usually, all other regular events offer purses of $15 million or more, and there has been only 1 that has offered more than $20 million. However, this year, the season opener itself is offering a prize purse of $20 million. This could only mean that the stakes have been raised high for the rest of the year.

Is this the influence of LIV Golf? One might say so. The PGA Tour seems to be pouring in all its riches, to counterweight the heavy amounts that LIV Golf haas shown off over the last year. The LIV Golf series has long been funded by the Saudi Arabian PIF and its governor. It has managed to gain some of the best golfers in the world, with some very rich contracts.

PGA Tour director Jay Monahan believes that the players that remained on the PGA Tour are looking forward to its future. “The players were so engaged and involved in the changes that we were making,” Monahan said. “Their involvement, their belief in this model and this model preparing them to achieve at the highest level, that’s what they’re committed to.”

The 2023 WM Phoenix Open will see Rory McIlroy wanting to hold on to his World no.1 rank. He is playing at the strongest that he can. However, World no. 2 and former world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be looking to get back his title, and so will Jon Rahm.
