“We are confident”: PGA Tour under investigation as Justice Department launches antitrust probe for LIV Golf lawsuit
LIV Golf Series vs PGA Tour
The antitrust lawsuit filed by LIV Golf against the PGA Tour has now officially taken off, as the Department of Justice has not launched a probe with the latter. The LIV Series’ antitrust lawsuit led by Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau is looking for permission for suspended golfers to be able to play any and all events.
The ongoing fight has seen a new wrinkle in the PGA Tour’s plans. The Department of Justice has gone ahead and launched a probe- investigating whether the PGA Tour has used anti-competitive practices against the rival golf league according to CBS Sports. The DOJ has gone right into the investigation, wasting no time in sending out inquiries.

Players from the PGA Tour might just get caught in a long-fought battle with the LIV Series
Players from the PGA have already received initial inquiries regarding the governing bylaws and the PGA Tour‘s actions over the last few months. However, despite the daunting actions, the PGA said that it is ready for the probe by all means. The PGA experienced a similar kind of investigation in 1994 when the Federal Trade Commission looked into the PGA for allowing players to play non-PGA events.
“This was not unexpected,” a PGA Tour spokesman said. “We went through this in 1994 and we are confident in a similar outcome.” This is now the second time that the LIV Saga has seen a lawsuit- the first time being when a judge delayed the suspension of players from the DP World Tour, allowing them to play the Scottish Open. This lawsuit however seems like it’ll last for quite a long time, since the decision made will be impacting all golfers, regardless of the league they choose.
