LIV Golfer Phil Mickelson finally spoke out on the PGA-LIV merger deal after maintaining silence since the news stormed the golfing world. The 3x Majors Champion stated that he “can’t envision a better scenario” where both the tours can work together and potentially improve the game of golf further.

Mickelson also noted that he thought the LIV and PGA working together will take a few more years given the severity of the feud and lawsuits both faced since 2022. Nevertheless, the San Diego native is more than happy to see it happen in a year and a half.

Earlier when Jay Monahan along with PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan released the news of both tours coming together under one entity, the golfing world was shaken to its core. Many players including LIV CEO Greg Norman were left out of the loop.

Phil Mickelson came to know about the merger deal during the U.S. Open. But unfortunately, Lefty didn’t make the cut to the event, marking his first public appearance at Valderrama for LIV Andalucia.

Following the deal announcement on June 6th, the authorities sent a 6-page framework to the U.S. Senate for further investigation into details. It was reported by Mirror, that the PGA Tour will get $3 billion as part of the billion-dollar merger deal.

At that time, the 3x Major Champion refused to talk about the deal and stated that he was happy to not “waste any energy on it”. He further said he’ll comment on it later as “nothing’s happening anytime soon.” After just a few weeks, prior to the LIV Golf event, Mickelson found the apt time to reveal his thoughts.

He stated the deal gave him “confident with where the game of golf is headed in the future.” The players are all “very optimistic” to see what results the merger will bring. The defector did not confirm his return to the PGA Tour, he said he’s happy where he is at currently.

Just a day back, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson also shared their stance on PGA Tour. Both of them stated that they are happy where they are and would like to keep their stance in LIV for now. They said they are content with playing fewer games and would like to do so even in the future.
