The rivalries between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson or the gruesome battle between Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are looked back with fond memories. Woods has seen off a lot of competitors in his career. One of them was Phil Mickelson. The two veterans have enjoyed a stellar career and faced off on numerous occasions. One that is best remembered by many fans is their battle at the Tour Championship in 2002.

While both of them did not actually battle it out for the trophy, they were paired together for the first tee-off. While both of them ended up losing the tournament to Singh, they shared an unforgettable moment. It all started when the announcer started introducing Woods as the two golfers got ready to launch their shots.

Tiger Woods once savagely trolled Phil Mickelson regarding his US Open failures

When it comes to golf, there is no doubt, Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers. People who are not even aware of the sport have at least heard his name once in their life. His achievements speak for themselves. However, Phil Mickelson despite his current allegiance to LIV Golf, is a current World Golf Hall of Famer.

The 53-year-old Lefty is a six-time major champion in his own rights. He has come close on many occasions to complete the career grand slam. Mickelson though has come up short in the US Open. This failure at this tournament led Woods to take a cheeky jab at his rival at “The Match II“. The Match was an unofficial event that took place between Woods and Mickelson. The success of this tournament led to it taking place again.

After winning the inaugural event in 2018, “The Match” returned as “Champions for Charity” in 2020. This event was played to provide funds for the COVID-19 pandemic, Mickelson would team up Peyton Manning to face Woods and Tom Brady. During the tournament Woods would destroy Mickelson with a simple suggestion.

As per Golf Digest, Mickelson asked Woods to mark his golf ball as he went up for the fifth hole. “Do you want one of my U.S Open medals?,” Woods replied to leave Mickelson claiming he has some silver medals of his own. A fun moment in an event that saw Woods and Brady come out on top.

Unfortunately, things have changed since then as Mickelson joined the LIV Golf, the league which Woods has time and again spoken against. The golf merger between the PGA and LIV is likely to bring some changes. While Mickelson has stated he is happy about the merger, Woods is yet to offer a comment regarding the whole situation.
