“I’m loving it!” Lefty Phil Mickelson leaves PGA disoriented, LIV Golf achieve success in Ranking Fight Round 1

Phil Mickelson
Legendary golfer Phil Mickelson recently said he believes LIV golf league’s deal with the MENA Tour in order to help its golfers gain OWGR points was good for both parties. This is at a time when the LIV players look forward to gain ranking for the first time at this week’s event in Thailand.
LIV golfers have not been awarded any ranking points in the OWGR system since the league’s inception. As things stand, they will not be able to play in the major tournaments next year. “I think from a player standpoint, it feels great to have everyone at LIV fighting so hard for the players and their best interests,” Mickelson said.
“I think for the World Golf Rankings, this is a great way to keep its credibility, while not bringing in politics into the decision-making process. I think it’s good for all parties,” he added.
Mickelson also concurred that this way the Asian Tour could also become a feeder tour for LIV golf in the future, considering how limited the league’s opportunities currently are.
“Given the many obstacles that we have had to face from those trying to stop it, I think it’s a great way to do this in addition to adding in a developmental tour for the Asian Tour who will be our feeding tour going forward. So I think it’s a win on all parts,” the American golfer reasoned.
Phil Mickelson pulls out of lawsuit against PGA Tour

Recently, Mickelson took his name back from the anti-trust lawsuit signed by LIV against the PGA Tour. The golfer filed a voluntary dismissal in the federal court after which Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Ian Poulter also pulled out. “Now that LIV is involved, it’s not necessary for me to be involved,” said Mickelson.
“The only reason for me to stay in is damages, which I don’t really want or need anything. I do think it’s important that the players have the right to play when and where they want, when and where they qualify for. And now that LIV is a part of it, that will be accomplished if and when they win.’’ the 52-year-old added.
The lawsuit was filed demanding an opportunity to play on the PGA Tour in the future by the players. The trial is scheduled to be held in January 2024. Mickelson has continually argued that professional golfers are free agents who should be allowed to play where ever they wish to.
