No longer uncut Diamond, Harry sparkles as Rory McIlory praises him amid fan’s criticism
Rory McIlroy and Harry Diamond
Rory McIlroy, the World No.2, has vehemently rejected criticism of his caddie, Harry Diamond in the recent social media scandal. He claims that their partnership over a number of years speaks volumes about it.
The caddies’ role has been the subject of interaction or one can call discussion, particularly on social media, as the golfer from Northern Ireland has not won a major since 2014.
McIlroy says Diamond is calming presence to have by his side
However, McIlroy has come on strong support after criticism of his caddie saying that he is an “easy target” and he exactly knows how close they are.
“I think over the years I’ve proven I know what I’m doing out here,” McIlroy said to BBC Sport Northern Ireland. “I wouldn’t have him on the bag if I didn’t think he was good at what he did.”
After McIlroy split up with his former JP Fitzgerald back in August 2017, Diamond took on the role of McIlroy’s caddie on an interim basis but was soon confirmed as a full-time caddie.
Diamond himself was a top amateur player in Ireland who won the West of Ireland title in 2012 but never made it to the professional circuit. The duo partnership has flourished over the years as the 33-year-old golfer went on to win nine PGA Tour titles with his friend alongside him.
“Harry’s a really calming presence to have by my side,” McIlroy said prior to teaming up with his father Gerry at this week’s Dunhill Links event. “He’s grown into his role really well. I think our record speaks for itself. We’ve won a ton. We’ve won two FedEx Cups together.”
