Rory Mcllroy and LIV GOlf are making the headlines recently for a wide variety of reasons. From despising LIV Golf since it has gained some traction on the world stage to now giving LIV Golf some air to exist and backing their inclusion in OGWR Rory Mcllroy has definitely proved that – ‘the world is in fact round’.

Rory Mcllroy is currently ranked in second place with Scottie Scheffler at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings. Meanwhile, LIV Golf has faced a lot of controversy in previous days with Apple denying their streaming. FedEx Cup declared hatred for the breakaway circuit, and Greg Norman wanted to take new flights after negotiations with the Australian government.

Mcllroy says it is undoubtedly difficult for the golfers to move forward without proper rankings and that he himself wrote to the Official World Golf Ranking Chairperson Peter Dawson, saying, “every week that passes without the inclusion of LIV athletes undermines the historical value of OWGR.’’

“If Dustin Johnson is somehow 100th in the world it’s not an accurate reflection of where he is in the game,’’ Mcllroy told BBC adding, “at the same time, you can’t make up your own rules. There are criteria there, everyone knows what they are, and if they want to pivot to meet the criteria they can.”

I’ve no problem with them getting ranking points at all but you have to meet the criteria. If you don’t it’s harder to justify why you should have them.’’ states Rory as he voices his concerns for the well-being of the sport.

LIV golf right now only partially qualifies to be a part of the OWGR and the application might take some time to process, maybe even a year. Rory Mcllroy not long ago spoke out his mind wanting LIV golfers to get OWGR ranking points and compete in Majors.

There is no transparent criteria for the rankings, but as Mickelson himself said, the PGA will never have all the best players now, it seems OWGR has to acknowledge the same for the good of the game.
