While the golfing world had its sights set on the Hero World Challenge, there had been a development outside the greens that stunned the world. The USGA and R&A are set to announce the golf ball rollback proposal this week. This word has been widely criticized by several golfers. However, the views of Rory McIlroy seem to be different.
The four-time major champion is one of the most popular faces in the world of golf. His thoughts on several topics regarding golf have been widely discussed. He is one of the few golfers who is pleased to see this new rule announcement and has hit back at the critics.
The golf ball rollback debate had been going on for years. When the talks of this resurfaced earlier this year, the North Irishman had voiced in favor of this. He would also claim that it would help professional golf in the upcoming years.
As the debate regarding this sparked up again this week, McIlroy took to his X account and said that he could not understand the anger among the golfing communities on this matter. He also spoke in defense of golf governing bodies and said people should not be mad at them.
I don’t understand the anger about the golf ball rollback. It will make no difference whatsoever to the average golfer and puts golf back on a path of sustainability... The people who are upset about this decision shouldn’t be mad at the governing bodies.Rory McIlroy on golf ball rollback through X.
Brandel Chamblee blasts USGA and R&A for golf ball rollback
Joining in this golf ball rollback debate, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee blasted the United States Golf Association (USGA) and R&A for proposing this rule universally.
Chamblee is one of the most active users on social media. The analyst has used his platform to give his thoughts on several topics. He was among those who were left unimpressed by this development and attacked the governing bodies.
In his post on X, Chamblee would claim that he appreciated the efforts of the governing bodies but was against this move. He claimed that their proposed rule is way out of the game they govern and said “It is a very small number of people that are in favor of a roll back“. Check out that post from Chamblee below:
Meanwhile, 15-time major champion Tiger Woods recently revealed his stance on this matter. The golf legend making his return this past weekend at the Her World Challenge claimed that he was already ready for “bifurcation” and that these talks had been going for a while now. It will now be interesting to see how this situation develops from here on.
