Rory Mcllroy once fancied a round of golf with ‘OUTCASTED’ Rapper Kanye West

In 2015, multiple-time major winner Rory Mcllroy and some other golfers spoke to Billboard about which celebrity they would want to play a round of golf with, if it was possible. Northern Irishman Mcllroy’s choice was particularly surprising, as he chose rapper Kanye West a.k.a. ‘Ye‘ who is currently facing flak for his antisemitic remarks.
In fact, Ye, who once also started a Presidential nomination bid, has been blacklisted by many of his earlier sponsors of the likes of Balenciaga, Gap and Adidas for his controversial statements.
“I would love to spend four or five hours in his (Ye’s) company just to see what he’s like. It would be very interesting,” Rory said at the time.
When Rory Mcllroy met teenage Ukrainian golfers in order to motivate them amidst tough Russian war conditions
Teenage golfers from Ukraine were invited to the recent Alfred Dunhill Links Championship held in St Andrews, Scotland.
“Their dreams have come true – they met Rory Mcllroy and shook his hand. They had a welcome message from Tommy Fleetwood – it’s a dream for any junior. Unfortunately, all these kids have trauma – but for us, it was so important to keep them away from that for a short time,” a Sky Sports journalist covering the event said.
R&A’s Women in Golf Leadership Development Programme organized the Project Ukraine Camp. Veronika Rastvortseva, one of their colleagues, came up with the idea.
During the event, Toni Zverblis of Project Ukraine stated: “We’ve all watched the horrors unfold in Ukraine and we were compelled to help after listening to our colleague Veronika Rasvortseva describe what was going on around her in the early days of the invasion.”
All the young golfers had to flee Ukraine because of adverse conditions forced by war. In addition to meeting their heroes, the young golfers also had a great time with Andrews University Director of Golf Ian Muir. The young teenagers would have learned a lot during this great initiative.
