Rory Mcllroy indicates NONE will miss Golf as NFL season starts, urges PGA to postpone season to save face

Having kickstarted his 2022/23 PGA season with a win at the CJ Cup, Rory Mcllroy was being appreciated by his peers for his achievement. However, the Northern Irishman chose to think a bit ahead of time when he remarked that the PGA Tour should ideally postpone its season until the end of the NFL in order to get at least some attention from fans.

After the win, Mcllroy also climbed back to No.1 in the world golf rankings. Currently golfers competing in the rival league to the PGA, which is the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV golf league aren’t allowed ranking points, which could be one part of the reason why Rory has climbed to the top despite not being in stellar form.

“It’s football season, right? I think we need to get to the place where it’s not oversaturated. I would love us to come back in January and people will have missed watching competitive golf,” Mcllroy said after his win.

Rory Mcllroy recently made a startling suggestion of allowing LIV golfers to compete in the Majors and get world ranking points

Mcllroy recently said that is undoubtedly difficult for the golfers to move forward without proper rankings and that he himself wrote to the Official World Golf Ranking Chairperson Peter Dawson, saying, “every week that passes without the inclusion of LIV athletes undermines the historical value of OWGR.’’

“If Dustin Johnson is somehow 100th in the world it’s not an accurate reflection of where he is in the game,’’ Mcllroy told BBC adding, “at the same time, you can’t make up your own rules. There are criteria there, everyone knows what they are, and if they want to pivot to meet the criteria they can.”

LIV golf right now only partially qualifies to be a part of the OWGR and the application might take some time to process, maybe even a year. Mcllroy not long ago spoke out his mind wanting LIV golfers to get OWGR ranking points and compete in Majors.

There is no transparent criteria for the rankings, but as Mickelson himself said, the PGA will never have all the best players now, it seems OWGR has to acknowledge the same for the good of the game.
