‘Scheffler’s spot up for grabs’ as Rory Mcllroy in line to top CJ Cup Ranks

Rory Mcllroy is a widely known face of the golf world with his well-knit five straight top-8 victories. His leaderboard high at the Tour Championship is another accolade in the golfer’s lap. The player spotted six shots at Scottie Scheffler at the Championship as Scheffler hasn’t been a part of any individual tournament since East Lake, with a not-so-exciting show put up at the Presidents Cup.

For those who don’t know much about Rory, he became the second on the Gold leaderboards just last week surpassing the Australian brilliance of Cameron Smith. He also won the third FedEx Cup this year and displays the potential to reach the zenith of rankings for the ninth time again.

With all of the dance around the rankings, the top position is up for grabs and Rory rushed into the CJ Cup with just a spot behind the World’s No. 1 Scheffler. The performance delivered at the CJ Cup by the World No. 2 Rory Mcllroy will decide his fate on the leaderboards now.

What is it going to take for Rory Mcllroy to top the charts?

For starters, Rory Mcllroy does not necessarily need to finish at the top spot for the upcoming CJ Cup to unseat Scheffler, who has held the spot since March, 27 this year after winning the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Rather unsurprisingly, Rory can do with a lonely second-place finish at South Carolina’s Cup.

While there is still an array of chances and factors a pay, the Official World Golf Rankings expert Nosferatu (@VC606on Twitter) presented a different opinion when asked about Rory’s chances of making it to the top. He said that Mcllroy would surely need some help from Scheffler, meaning Scheffler’s game has to end with a poor finish.

There had been some drama already around the rankings in the past when Norman went on to write about the rankings in a caption to a post from Chicago. “Who’s questioning the real #1 and #2 in the world?” he wrote. “When the fans speak, listen. Golf is a force for good,” he added and with this, we hope too that ‘may the best man win.’
