Scottie Scheffler has done it once again, and in style. He claimed his fifth PGA Tour win, and a back-to-back Phoenix Open win. The icing on the cake for the American golfer however, is that he took back his world no. 1 ranking. The current World No. 1 holder, Rory McIlroy unfortunately couldn’t hold on to his stint, after finishing a disappointing T32.

McIlroy lost his ranking that he has held since October. Scottie Scheffler has successfully taken back the ranking that he held prior to McIlroy. It really showed how strong the field for the Phoenix Open was. Nick Taylor claimed second place in the tournament, 2 strokes behind Scheffler. Jon Rahm on the other hand, finished third.

The 26-year-old managed to get an eagle and 4 birdies during his final round. He finished comfortably ahead of Taylor, bringing an exciting weekend to a close.

With this win, Scottie Scheffler became the seventh golfer to defend his Phoenix Open title. This also moves him into fifth place for the FedEx cup standings. The road to victory was not an easy one however, as Scheffler almost lost his advantage to Taylor. However, a 30 foot eagle brought him back on track once again, edging out Taylor.

He further extended his lead when he managed to score a par, while Taylor struggled and bogeyed the round. Victory was his at that point, and Scheffler was more than happy to take it. “I’m just proud with how I fought today,” Scheffler said. “I didn’t have my best stuff, but I grinded it out. I wasn’t hitting it good off tee, my irons didn’t feel as sharp, but I played a great round of golf today.”

“I started to build some momentum early today and saw some putts go in, so I’m really grateful with the result. It [returning to world No 1] feels pretty good!” said Scheffler, enjoying his win. The PGA Tour now moves to the Genesis Invitational, where another challenge for the payers awaits.

Tiger Woods will be making his comeback after an eight month long break, and golfers are excited to see him back on course. 23 of the world’s top 25 leading players will be a part of the Genesis Invitational, which will be another tough course to take on.
