“Utterly meaningless” – Golf fans BERATE Talor Gooch on winning LIV Golf individual season title following strong performance this year

While he might have not fallen just short of his fourth LIV title, Talor Gooch was the biggest winner on Sunday. A tight final round saw him go head-to-head with Brooks Koepka. The duo would force a play-off round where Gooch failed to make his putt at the second time of asking. This saw him finish as a runner-up for the event. The American golfer though claimed the big prize of $18 million as he was crowned the 2023 LIV Golf individual champion.
Gooch has enjoyed a great year at the circuit. In May he reached great heights when he became the first LIV Golfer to claim back-to-back wins. His third triumph at LIV Valderrama put him prime position to claim this crown. However, victories for Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau saw the standings change as he came down to second.
Going into the tournament, Gooch knew he needed a strong performance. He did this job while DeChambeau and Smith struggled to keep up. This saw Gooch once again overtake Smith and finished the season with 192 points.
Three wins and five top-10 finishes in thirteen events saw him make over $15 million in the process. While this is a major accomplishment in its own right, the fans on social media were unimpressed by it. LIV Golf has always been under backlash from the fans and whatever they do has not been taken too seriously. The same happened with Gooch as they trolled him for winning this title instead of usual cheering and celebrations.

Perhaps it was inevitable that fans would not be pleased by whoever won the individual prize. They have still not forgiven the players who choose to ride with LIV Golf and betray the PGA Tour in the process.
Users on X (formerly called Twitter) did not step back from taking a shot at Gooch. One user seemingly mocked him by writing, “Utterly meaningless“. Check out that and a few other reactions from golf fans regarding the accomplishment of Gooch:
The 31-year-old golfer has now become the second individual champion of LIV Golf and succeeded Dustin Johnson. The former also known by his initials “DJ” had already won the title before the final event last time out. His triumph brought double success as his side 4Aces GC won the team championship. Can Gooch help his side achieve this?
Gooch was a member of 4Aces back then but he now represents the RangeGoats GC. They are currently fourth with 179 points, four and seven points behind Torque GC and Crushers GC respectively. The team championship event later this week in Miami will determine who walks away as the winner this year.
