Tiger Woods, one of the greatest golf players, has not been doing well physically. His lingering health issues and injuries from the 2021 accident have been taking a profound toll on his play. One of the recent examples of this was his withdrawal from the 2023 Masters, even after making the cut for the 23rd consecutive time.
Woods has expressed confidence in golf veteran Jack Nicklaus while conversing on this issue. Jack Nicklaus, in his time, won 18 majors, which Tiger Woods aspired to overtake someday. However, that day seems quite dim, given his injuries have significantly regressed his form of play.
Jack Nicklaus says, “I don’t know a whole lot about what he’s been going through. He’s showed a lot of guts and courage to play and try to be part of what’s going on with the way he’s been. He’s actually swinging well; he just can’t walk.”

Putting together Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods‘ achievements in golf, one would be spellbound. The two legends of the sport have a combined 155 PGA Tour wins and 33 Major wins. While Tiger Woods has 15 Major wins in his career, Jack Nicklaus edges him slightly with 18 Major wins. The two often get together and talk about the sport, with the pair last having dinner at the Masters Champions Dinner.
Speaking of Tiger Woods’ injury and health, Jack Nicklaus quotes Tiger Woods, “He said, ‘I’m really playing well, I’m hitting the ball great, my short game’s great, my putting’s good. I just can’t walk.’ And he says, ‘If it helps where I can walk, I’m willing to do it.'”
Nicklaus is very much appreciative of Tiger’s zeal to return. He thinks that Woods is still up for taking the toughest challenges in golf, no matter the circumstances he is going through. Sir Nicklaus adds, “He wouldn’t be having the operations if he wasn’t interested in wanting to continue to play. He’s a very motivated and dedicated young man to continue to play the game of golf. The dedicated young doesn’t last very long.”
Tiger Woods recently went through the subtalar fusion procedure right after withdrawing from the 87th Augusta Masters. He posted a Twitter update about the successful completion of his surgery on April 20, 2023.
There is no assurance about when Tiger Woods will return after this surgery back to the field. It is expected that Woods would spend the remainder of the season in rehabilitation, missing some of the upcoming tournaments in this way.
