On October 6, 1996, young Tiger Woods won the Las Vegas Invitational, the first of his 82 PGA Tour titles, by defeating Davis Love III in a playoff. Since then, the American superstar has gone on to win 15 Majors.

Arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Woods burst onto the scene in 1996. Since then, Tiger has roared on the course. Just to refresh the memories of golfing fans – October 6, 1996 — was the day when a 20-year-old boy won his first PGA Tour win in just his fifth start.

Since then, there has been no looking back for the now 46-year-old golfer. When he burst onto the professional golf scene, he was followed by a large part of journalists and there was much noise around him.

The Big Cat was surrounded by a tremendous buzz around him since his days as an amateur golfer. He was well-known to everyone but hadn’t made any kind of mark. The Americans surely lacked maturity but people around him, especially his dad, knew that he was going to make it big.

He made his professional debut a few weeks prior in Milwaukee, and he then advanced to the Quad City Classic. It was just the early days but fast-forward to his fifth Championship at the Las Vegas Invitational.

Woods faced a tough play-off at the Las Vegas Invitational against Davis Love III. He had won with a two-putt par on the par-5s that week in 5-under. At the Las Vegas Invitational, Woods found himself going up against Davis Love III in the play-off.

He had played the par-5s that week in 5-under and won with a two-putt par on the hole. Woods then had an advantage when Love failed to get out of a greenside bunker. After the event, Love said he was disappointed but praised Woods: “He’s a great, great player, and he’s great for the TOUR.”
