Tiger Woods and Steve Williams are one of the most famous partnerships in golf history. Williams was the caddie for the legendary golfer for a number of years and has given a rare insight about Woods.
In a podcast series called “Chasing Majors, ” the former caddie revealed something the golfer never did at the end of a tournament. That is the one thing that sets him apart from the rest of the golfers.

Tiger Woods’s character set him apart: Steve Williams
In an exclusive chat with Australian Golf Digest, the Kiwi revealed how Woods’s character set him apart and explained his success.
“One of the things I admire most about Tiger – I admired a lot of things about him…”
“…but one thing I absolutely admired about Tiger is that at the completion of a tournament he would walk into the scorer’s hut and sign the scorecard and hand it in,” Williams said.
“And they always had a sheet with the prize money allocation. One could look up on the screen to see how a player finished and calculate t how much he won. Tiger never ever once took a look at that. He played to win trophies and create records, not for prize money.”
Williams had also worked with elite golfers like Danielle Kang and Adam Scott after parting with Woods. Comparing all his employees, the former caddie said that in his 40-year-long career he has never seen someone least concerned about financial returns during events.
“He’s the only player I’ve ever caddied for, the only player I’ve ever seen who never, ever looked at that sheet. OK, you could argue he didn’t need to look at that sheet, but every player looks at that sheet. Woods never did.”
One of the greatest golfers of all time – Woods earned more than $120 million in prize money during his career which lasted over two decades. The American also holds the record with 82 PGA tour wins.
