“He has done things that are not in the best interest of golf”: Tiger Woods slams Greg Norman over LIV Golf

Greg Norman, Tiger Woods

The upcoming British Open is going to be an exciting one, as some of the biggest names in the world come together to play the historic 150th Open. Amongst these is Tiger Woods, for whom the course is near and dear to his heart. The day before the Open starts however, Woods has used the press conference to unleash his disappointment on Greg Norman for organising the LIV Series.

Greg Norman has decided not to play in the Open this year. He was equivocally uninvited from St. Andrews when he asked for a special dispensation to play this week in Scotland. Norman was not even invited to the champion’s dinner. Woods however, was glad that the veteran was not invited to dinner, especially as he dropped some scathing truth bombs about Norman.

“I know Greg tried to do this (organise a breakaway tour) back in the early ‘90s. It didn’t work then, and he’s trying to make it work now. I still don’t see how that’s in the best interests of the game,” Woods said according to news.com.au. “What the European Tour and what the PGA TOUR stands for and what they’ve done, as well as the governing bodies of the game and the Major championships … I think they see it differently than what Greg sees it.”

“Greg has done some things I don’t think are in the best interests of golf. We’re coming back to probably the most historical place and it (not inviting Norman) was the right thing,” added Woods. British Open organisers followed the US Open in allowing LIV Golf players to compete at St Andrews, as the PGA Tour and DP World Tour are moving to ban them. This means that the likes of Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson will tee off on Thursday.
