The good news regarding the return of Tiger Woods keeps on coming. A few days after, it was announced that the veteran was returning to golf greens at the Hero World Challenge. He is now also gearing up for the upcoming PNC Championship with his son, Charlie.
The father-son will now headline this event for the fourth time. This was announced on Wednesday at the NBC’s Today Show. This event will mark the 47-year-old’s second start in three weeks after serving as the host at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas next week.
Following his injury in April, the five-time Masters champion has been out of action. In the past few months, the speculation of his return had ignited when he was seen walking along fine with his son.
During this time off the greens, Woods can be spotted caddying for his son, while implementing his knowledge in him. He was also seen by his side during the Last Chance Regional competition, where he impressively shot 6-under 66. The Woods family will now get ready for the 36-hole event and hope to lay down their mark on the sport again.
How have Team Woods fared at the PNC Championships before?
The PNC Championship is an annual tournament that features two-player teams of Father-Son. The competition follows a two-player format with the father and their kids hitting the shots in a 36-hole circuit. The 2023 event will mark the fourth appearance of Team Woods featuring Charlie and his legendary father.
While Sr. Woods is considered one of the greatest players of the game, the junior Woods is often looked at as his successor. The expectations are huge on the young shoulders of Charlie. Despite their combined skills and talent, Team Woods has never won this event.
In the first attempt in 2020, they would finish seventh in the rankings. The next edition in 2021 saw their results improve as they came close. They would have to settle for runner-up spots as they fired a round score of 57. The duo of golf legend John Daly and his son John Daly II emerged victorious ahead of Team Woods.
As they hoped to bounce back in 2022, the results got worse and they finished eighth in the standings. Now the duo would be hoping to finally land the prize and emerge victorious.
As for the tournament, the championship event will be played from December 14 to December 17 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. Former Masters winner Vijay Singh, along with his son Qass Singh, will enter the competition as the defending champions. Other headline names in this event are Lee Trevino, Sir Nick Faldo, Justin Thomas, and John Daly, who, along with their partners, will make their presence felt.
