Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers, and the golf community considers him one of the sport’s legends. However, the legend now seems to have fallen from his throne due to injuries impacting his performance significantly. Woods was seen limping at the Augusta Masters, and even after making the cut for the 23rd time, he had to withdraw from the tournament owing to these nerve-wracking injuries.

As new reports emerge, Tiger Woods underwent an ankle surgery, which might further lead to the 15 major champion missing the rest of the 2022-23 season. This surgery was a ‘subtalar fusion procedure’ to address issues from Woods’ 2021 car accident injuries.

In a statement on Twitter, Woods’ official account informed, “Earlier today, Tiger underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address his post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture. It was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Institute New York City. He has determined the surgery to be successful. Tiger is currently recovering and looks forward to beginning his rehabilitation.

Is Tiger Woods now a finished legend?

This question would be a tough one to answer. Perhaps, no one except legends like Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead. This comparison comes in because Woods is just one tournament shy of equaling Sam Snead’s record for PGA Tour wins and is currently a 15-time major winner, three short of Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins.

Fans have often asked how long the legend will be able to sustain his performance owing to these injuries. Tiger Woods was determined enough at the start of the year, which was even reflected in the Genesis Pro Invitationals. However, he also says, “I don’t know how many more [Masters] I have in me. So just to be able to appreciate the time that I have here and cherish the memories. But still, to just look at the golf course, it looks like it’s been here for over a hundred years and hasn’t changed, and each and every year we come here, everything has changed since I first played here.”

Since his injury in 2021, Woods has played four major championships and has finished just one. Earlier, he had withdrawn from the PGA Championship after three rounds, skipped the US Open, and missed the Open Championship cut.

Woods is next expected to appear at the PGA Championship this year in May. However, his return seems highly doubtful, given his ailing body and current health condition.
