The Japanese pro-golfer Tom Kim found himself trending on social media on Day 1 of the PGA Championship. The golfer got doused in mud water and the video immediately went viral among fans, unbeknownst to the star himself. Kim’s reaction was priceless, as he went red with embarrassment, but took it like a champ.

He even joked and teased ESPN’s Michael Eaves when the latter commented that Kim didn’t smell as bad as he thought he would. To his reply, the golfer smiled stating, “You wanna smell my hand?”. The PGA event has only just started but it’s fulfilling its role of delivering quality content already to its viewers.

Just earlier, Bryson DeChambeau nearly hit the head of Kenny Pigman with a stray shot. Thankfully, he squatted down in time, letting the ball hit his shoulder instead of his head. It could’ve been a serious accident otherwise. Leaving all the serious incidents aside, Kim’s story surely lightened the fans with jokes, jabs, and smiles.

Tom Kim during his post-round interview explained why he felt the need to go down the eerie hole during his game. Kim thought he lost his ball on 6th hole water, which seemingly was a swamp. While trying to collect his ball, he went further and sank deeper in the mud, forcing him to crawl his way back onto land.

His shirt and pant were undoubtedly caked with mud, as he literally seemed like a person bathing in mud water. He had to discard his shirt and wear a sweater from his golf bag while folding up his pants up to his knee. His latest wardrobe design amused the fans and the commentators who had a good laugh at this.

Funnily enough, Kim himself came to know of his viral incident later in the day. He didn’t know he was trending as he smiled while scrolling his phone up. When asked why he did so much for a golf ball, the Korean star commented, “It’s a major championship and I’m fighting for every single stroke.”

He stated that this could have proven to be my winning moment on Sunday or making the cut, so the golfer couldn’t give up on the stray ball. For Kim, he would have gone to the muddy swamp if he was able to hit a shot. “I’m doing everything I can to do it.” Although the end result was unfortunate.

He described his full-on mud bath moment stating that as soon as he went in “It was kind of sketch.” Even though the ball was not found after so much effort, every single try counted. It also got dark and “once my foot got in, I was like, there is no looking back.”

Kim exclaimed, since he went in already it wouldn’t hurt to cake his shirt and pant a bit more. “There was one point where I just sunk in — I couldn’t get myself out.”

This all happened in just the debut week of the PGA Championship event. Fans can only expect more of such light-hearted content in the next few days, although nothing can top Kim’s mud bath situation.
