“He’s loving the revenge”: Twitter reacts as Trump holds LIV Golf event and eyes 2024 with $2 billion investment
Donald Trump, LIV Golf
Later this month, the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey will be holding its first ever tournament for the controversial Saudi backed LIV Golf Series. The series is expected to close with a $50 million purse in October at Donald Trump’s signature golf course- Trump National Doral Miami, which will also infuse millions into Trump’s bank account.
The PGA Tour has already given a ban to the LIV Golf defectors, while the families of the victims of 9/11 are outraged that the Saudi backed series is even taking place to begin with. Trump’s decision to host the LIV Series shows his close ties with the Saudis- not necessarily a good thing. “Trump is loving this. He’s loving the revenge. He’s loving the attention. He’s loving the money,” said Gary Williams according to NBC News, and much of twitter seemed to agree with him.
Twitter not impressed as Trump holds LIV Golf event
Twitter was not very happy that Trump had decided to host LIV Golf events, especially seeing the backlash that the Series has been facing since its inauguration. “Trump had a seat at the table in the professional golf world and lost it, and now he found this sort of rogue organization in the golf world that’s an existential threat to the establishment,” Williams said, echoing the sentiments of many.
Many people thought the $2 billion dollars he would be receiving was just backdoor money, and no one was convinced that it is a good idea. Nevertheless, LIV Golfers will be teeing off on Trump courses twice this season.
