“No one gains by banning golfers”: Twitter rips apart LIV Golf statement after losing lawsuit against PGA Tour
LIV Golf Series
The legal lawsuit between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has ended in quite the disaster for the Saudi backed series and a one up for the PGA Tour. 11 defectors led by Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour after being suspended from the series. Recently a trial took place to allow three golfers- Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford- to be able to play in the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs.
However, the trial did not go LIV’s way, as the federal judge overseeing the trial said that the LIV Players knew what they were losing out on when the signed the contract, and that they were receiving enough recuperation for the same. This was obviously a victory for the PGA Tour. LIV Golf issued a statement soon after, stating “We’re disappointed that Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones won’t be allowed to play golf. No one gains by banning golfers from playing.” Needless to say, Twitter was quick to judge the statement
Twitter is not impressed as the LIV Golf Series issues statement after losing lawsuit
Twitter was quick to call out the hypocrisy of the LIV Golfers, who had earlier said that they joined the series in order to play less golf. It does not seem to be working out in their favour that they now want to play more golf, as their intentions to join only for the money are becoming more evident.
Twitter also called out the fact that LIV Golf itself had a limited field, and that not more that 48 players could play at a given time. Also, the loss of the LIV Players meant that Rickie Fowler was given a golden opportunity- becoming the 125th player to make the cut for the FedEx Cup and a lot of people were happy about that.
