“I have to get used to it”: US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick needs to ‘find balance’ ahead of 150th Open
Matt Fitzpatrick
Matt Fitzpatrick recently swept the 2022 US Open in style, but he barely has time to reflect on it as now his sole focus is on the upcoming 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews. As he made his appearance at the Scottish Open and the JP McManus Pro-Am, the Open will be Fitzpatrick’s first official event since his country club win.
“For me, I just want to get back to the routine and getting back to playing regular golf again,” said Fitzpatrick to Golf Channel. He talked about the hectic life of travelling, which he has been doing much of by car and even by flight. Fitzpatrick said that he was looking back to get to regular scheduling. He ranks second on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained: total, which measures his complete performance against his peers.

“The biggest thing is just it proved to myself that I can do it, that I can win a major, particularly how far my game has come on this year compared to previous years,” Matt Fitzpatrick said. “I’ve had the belief in myself that I can do it, and I look at events that I’ve won before where I’ve had the lead, so it’s a position I feel comfortable with. But to do it in a major, obviously, just proved the belief within myself.”
“I’ve got to get used to it, particularly if I want to win more. It’s just part of it,” he said. “It’s just trying to find the balance of everything and make sure that I’ve got enough time to practice and enough time to have off and enough time to give to sponsors and media and all that sort of stuff.” Fitzpatrick said that he wanted to talk to guys who had experienced success, to see what hindered them in their careers, and what they did to improve it.
