After the golf gods decided to play some spoiler with bad weather on Sunday, the Tour Championship saw Viktor Hovland take home the prize. The Norwegian registered his third win of the season and his second successive win at the East Lake. This performance also helped him sweep home the FedEx Cup.
Hovland has had a great season so far. The 25-year-old has emerged a tough competition to beat and his win at the Memorial saw how competitive he could get. He did not record any major championship wins this year, but his performances in the last two weeks, as made him one of the most inform players right now.
After shooting a score of 66 in the third round, Hovland had almost sealed the deal. He entered the final round with a six-stroke lead. The golfer kept his cool and fired a 7-under 63 to officially call himself the Tour Championship winner and FedEx Cup Champion. He would finish the event with 27-under, finishing five strokes clear of runner-up Xander Schauffele.
“It’s just pretty surreal to be standing here right now, you know, playing basically my best golf the last two weeks,” Hovland said after the win. He is now the worth golfer after the great Tiger Woods, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay to win the BMW Championship and the FedEx Cup in the same season.
