The BMW Championship saw some intense battles through four rounds. The second leg of the FedEx Cup also witnessed great action as the lead changed hands on several occasions. It was, however, Viktor Hovland who stood on top of them all as he came out victorious. The Norwegian took home the top prize after setting a record course score on Sunday.

Hovland for most of the parts was seen chasing the leaders. A two-horse race saw Matt Fitzpatrick and current World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler exchange blows to stay in contention for first place. The 25-year-old then turned the tide completely in his favor by breaking out during the final nine holes. He would finish the round with a score of 61, thus breaking the course record set two days ago by Max Homa.

There was some element of luck as well as Scheffler, would fail to make the putt late on. This slip-up from the American allowed the then four-time PGA Tour winner to close it on his fifth victory at the tour.

The PGA Tour schedule is reaching near its conclusion. The Tour Championship will be the final so-called big event of the year as the FedEx Cup also draws to a close. Viktor Hovland will go into that tournament with huge momentum on his side as he looks to overcome the final big hurdle in the individual events.

His win also comes at a crucial time as the qualification for the Ryder Cup intensifies. Hovland was announced as a part of Team Europe last week and will be an integral member of their squad. While there is still time to start a discussion about the national team event, fans were in full praise for Hovland for his performance this weekend. A user congratulated him while writing “One hell of a performace.” Here are a few other reactions regarding his win.

It will be interesting to witness who triumphs in the third and final leg of the playoff event.
