The curtain on the 123rd U.S Open has been drawn. After an intense battle among other participants, Wyndham Clark emerged as the winner of the competition. This marked his first Major Championship win of his career. In a gritting battle at the Los Angeles Country Club (LACC), he defeated the likes of Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy to take home the cup.
The 29-year-old completed the day at ten under par. His swift play saw him finish one stroke ahead of McIlroy and five strokes in front of Fowler. The latter started off the competition in strong fashion and established himself as a favorite to win the whole thing. Clark held on to the lead thanks to bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes. He later made pars on the 17th and 18th.
It has been a year of epic turnaround for Clark. The American golfer had participated in six majors before this. His best finish in this major was a tied 75th position. However, in May, he turned his fortunes around. A victory at the Wells Fargo Championship helped him gain some momentum. Clark who once looked up at Fowler in his early years, was happy to compete against him.
“It was great walking by hearing a lot of people chant for Rickie’s name,” he said. He added that hearing his mentor’s name fueled the fire in him and gave him the confidence to go and win the tournament. Fowler started the day level with Clark but three bogeys over the first seven holes saw him go off-track and settle for a tied top-five finish.

Before the tournament even began, the fans and players had raised their concerns regarding the field. The LACC course was called out by many participants including recent winners Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka, as a tough place to play. So it did not come as a surprise that the margin of victory was extremely close.
Clark was left emotional after the win. Congratulations soon started flooding in for him for this impressive victory. Golf influencer Paige Spiranac was one of them. The social media celebrity revealed how they both grew up playing together. She also mentioned that their group of friends was confident that one day Clark will make it big. Twitter had some fun reactions to his victory. Here are a few of them
Clark finished the tournament with a 10-under 270 score. This allowed him to take home the trophy and the $3.6 million prize as well. Up next on the PGA Tour schedule is the Travelers Championship. The event is set to be graced by several big names including the top eight in official rankings. It will provide them with a chance to snatch up another title. Xander Schauffele will enter the tournament as the defending champion.
