Gordon Ramsay has revealed that David Beckham’s cooking skills have become so impressive that he no longer feels the need to cook for his longtime friend. Speaking to The Athletic, the celebrity chef heaped praise on the former England captain’s culinary talents, explaining that Beckham developed a serious passion for cooking during the latter stages of his football career in Italy.

When asked whether there was any culinary rivalry between the two, Ramsay laughed and said, “Unfortunately, David Beckham is a very talented chef. Even towards the end of his career, playing in Italy, he’d finish training in the morning and then send me these beautiful videos and pictures of his risottos from a culinary school in Milan. I said to him, ‘You’ve got too good. I’m not even going to cook for you anymore because, man, you know your game“

Ramsay credited Beckham’s perfectionist mindset for his success in the kitchen, noting that the football icon approaches cooking with the same dedication that defined his playing career. He added, “David is a self-confessed perfectionist, and if he’s going to cook, he wants to make sure that he is a bloody good cook. And he is.”

The renowned chef added that food and wine remain at the heart of their friendship, with the pair often bonding over their shared appreciation for great cuisine.

He said, “We have the most amazing time when we talk about food and wine. That kind of indulgence in small doses is perfect. Understanding how to match a great wine with a great risotto. Understanding how to cook an amazing pasta.”

Beckham has frequently shared his love of cooking with fans over the years, posting photos and videos of meals he prepares at home for family and friends.

David Beckham watches England’s FIFA World Cup draw against Ghana

Gordon Ramsay’s comments come as David Beckham has been supporting England during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. The former England captain attended England’s Group L match against Ghana at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 23. England was held to a 0-0 draw despite creating several chances, including a late opportunity for captain Harry Kane.

Photographs from the match showed Beckham reacting to the action throughout the game. He was seen smiling during parts of the contest before appearing frustrated as England failed to secure a winning goal.

Earlier this year, Beckham reflected on the difference between playing in a World Cup and watching from the stands. He told PEOPLE that while the emotional investment remains the same, spectators must deal with the frustration of having no control over events on the pitch.

The result followed England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening World Cup match. Beckham remains one of England’s most notable World Cup players, having represented his country at the tournaments in 1998, 2002 and 2006 while scoring in each of those competitions.
