On Tuesday, Greg Norman officially announced his exit from LIV Golf. The two-time major champion had stepped down from his post as the CEO of LIV Golf earlier this year.
Norman had previously revealed that he would step down from his position ahead of the 2025 season. Scott O’Neil would take over from him and was named the new CEO of the 54-hole circuit. The golf Hall of Famer would remain with the circuit until the expiration of his contract.
The Australian international played a huge role in the rise of LIV Golf. He was named as the CEO when the league was first announced and helped the Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour to land some big names from the PGA Tour.
He would oversee the creation of the league and the 13 teams. Before stepping down as the CEO, he was part of the discussions that led to the league landing a broadcasting deal with Fox Sports.
Norman would take to his Instagram account to officially announce the end of his tenure with LIV Golf. In the post, the ‘Great White Shark‘ posted a carousel of photos of his time with LIV Golf and a long message.
We created opportunities for both players and fans and broaden the ecosystem of golf. We truly globalized the game and expanded golf’s reach to fans around the world. We brought entertainment, innovation and private equity into golf (including to the PGA Tour) positioning the sport as an asset class. It’s been an incredible chapter, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished.

LIV Golf recently completed its 4th season, its 3rd as a league. Jon Rahm was crowned the individual champion after finishing on top of the standings despite no wins. His team, Legion XIII, would later go on to beat Crushers GC in the playoff round to win the team championship.
Social media reacts to Greg Norman’s departure from LIV Golf
Greg Norman‘s time with LIV Golf has finally come to an end. Months after stepping down from his post as the CEO of the Saudi-backed tour, the former World No.1 no longer has any ties with them.

The news of Norman’s official departure from LIV Golf sparked some mixed reactions from fans. While some celebrated his time with the league, many bashed him. One user wrote, “you ruined golf” and took a swipe at him.

Perhaps the money runs out and the LIV players all scramble to figure out how to return to the PGA.
He’ll join another startup pro golf league now 😅

For the record. He was fired, given the standard 6 month board seat before being shown the door.

No matter your views on the PGA pre-LIV, hard to argue Norman has improved the pro golf landscape. His motivation seemed to be more about money, division and settling scores.

Does he really think it’s the right thing for golf or it was the right thing for his pocketbook?

Norman has teased his followers on Instagram about a new adventure. Only time will tell what that new adventure will eventually be.
LIV Golf saw some changes after Greg Norman stepped down
Since its establishment in 2021, LIV Golf has been on the rise. In 2025, the league saw some big changes under the new leadership of Scott O’Neil and the departure of Greg Norman.

One massive change LIV got in 2025 was direct pathways to the major championships. The USGA and the R&A announced direct qualification paths for LIV Golfers for the U.S. Open and the Open Championship through the individual standings.
LIV Golf has also reapplied for the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points. Under Norman’s leadership, the league applied for these ranking points. However, their application was rejected in October 2023.
With O’Neil at the helm, the 54-hole circuit is once again trying to get these ranking points. Their new top boss was seen having a chat with Trevor Immelman, the current chairman of the OWGR during the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
If LIV’s bid for OWGR is successful, it could be a massive development for them. It would be something that Norman was unable to guarantee to the players during his tenure.
With 6 players relegated after the LIV Golf Indianapolis event, there will also be some fresh faces on LIV next season.
