Gunther, who has earned a new nickname of being the public enemy number one ever since sending John Cena into retirement, confronted CM Punk on this week’s Raw with even more heat behind him. After making his way into the ring, the Austrian told the Grand Rapids crowd to be mad at their hero, who tapped out like a little b*tch.
Just as ‘The Ring General’ was about to exit, Punk came out. ‘The Best in the World’ made a beeline for the erstwhile Walter, and they had an intense staredown. Gunther decided that was enough for the night, and he started laughing while Punk remained somber.
The former AEW star didn’t take his eyes off the Vienna-born wrestler, who ended up mocking Cena yet again with his “You Can’t See Me” taunt right in Punk’s face.

Last week, it was AJ Styles who was on the receiving end. And speaking of Styles, the latter bumped into ‘The Ring General’ backstage on Raw for the second week on the trot. ‘The Phenomenal One’ said the longest-reigning IC Champion didn’t know when to shut his mouth, which Gunther brazenly accepted.

Rumors of their inevitable match started picking up steam last Monday when the two of them first ran into each other in the parking lot. Apart from Punk and Styles, the former Imperium leader also got to share the screen with Rey Mysterio near the entrance stage.
The company is clearly doubling down on establishing Gunther as a career killer. He has already claimed two gigantic scalps in the form of Goldberg and John Cena. And while there’s no definite indicator to say so, AJ Styles does seem next. Also, even though CM Punk didn’t exchange any words with the Austrian, WWE did some foreshadowing with that face-off as well.
CM Punk got ambushed by Bron Breakker to end this week’s Raw
In the main event of this week’s Raw, CM Punk teamed up with Rey Mysterio to take on Bronson Reed and Austin Theory. The latter was revealed as the masked assailant from the WarGames match at Survivor Series last week. Theory had a backstage segment with Paul Heyman last night where the former US Champion expressed his desire to work for The Vision.

Heyman found it interesting that Theory was willing to serve under his tutelage. ‘The Wiseman’ went on to convince Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed to trust his instincts, but also gave them the green light to put the 28-year-old in the dirt if he didn’t get the job done. Fortunately for him, Theory came up with the goods as he pinned Mysterio with a Curb Stomp to get the win for The Vision.
Punk rolled in to get his hands on the Georgia native, but the latter escaped. Back in the ring, Bron Breakker, out of nowhere, started throwing it down with CM Punk.
Seeing the world champion putting ‘The Unpredictable Badass’ on the back foot for a moment, Theory barged in and tried playing the numbers game. ‘The Second City Saint’ delivered a clothesline to Vision’s newest henchman, sending him over the top rope.

Don't miss CM Punk vs Bron Breakker for the World Heavyweight Championship on January 5th, the FIRST Raw of 2026! pic.twitter.com/2pXuqu5Bl1
But it didn’t end well for Punk, as he got flattened by a devastating spear from Breakker just like last week. On January 5, on the Netflix anniversary episode of Raw, Punk will defend his World Heavyweight title against Breakker in what would be the Second City Saint’s first title defense since winning it in November.
It’d be interesting to see if the 47-year-old is even remotely ready to combat the menace of a Steiner descendant.
