As advertised, Bret Hart returned to WWE on the latest episode of Raw. The legend appeared to a huge pop from his hometown crowd of Calgary in the Scotiabank Saddledome. However, Bret’s homecoming was spoiled by none other than Gunther. The Ring General wasted no time in mocking Hart, referring to how he was now the “best there is, and the best there ever will be.” 

If that wasn’t enough, Gunther said that The Hitman was his second favorite wrestler. And who was his first? Well, the World Heavyweight Champion named Bill Goldberg in front of Hart. The Austrian wrestler mentioned the name of the man who concussed the former WWE Champion, forcing him into an early retirement. As such, the WWE Hall of Famer has voiced his disdain for Goldberg on several occasions, not mincing his words while speaking about The Myth.

Gunther’s blatant disrespect of Hart prompted Sami Zayn to come out. Zayn stood up for his childhood hero and chastised the 39-year-old for not accepting his challenge. Despite demanding another shot again, the latter once again denied Zayn’s proposition for a world title bout. Just when he was walking to the back, Bret Hart took to the microphone to call Gunther a “coward.”

This irked the record-breaking former Intercontinental Champion, who wanted to teach the legendary wrestler a brutal lesson. However, Zayn intercepted Gunther as a brawl between both men ensued. Moments later, backstage officials arrived to separate the duo. The closing shot of the segment saw the former Bloodline member standing tall alongside Hart as the 2024 King of the Ring retreated.

WWE Universe reacts to Gunther insulting Bret Hart by namedropping Goldberg on Raw

Gunther’s statement on Raw sent wrestling fans on social media into a frenzy. With Bret Hart’s animosity with Goldberg well known within the wrestling world, the WWE Universe couldn’t believe that the Austrian namedropped him. Therefore, fans heaped praise on Gunther’s character work, calling him one of the greatest heels.

Moreover, users appreciated The Ring General for his work on the microphone. Another fan pointed out how Hart looked legitimately angry at Gunther. Meanwhile, others claimed that this was one of the best promos of the year.

Impressed by the World Heavyweight Champion, a fan suggested that he should break Roman Reigns‘ record. On the other hand, another user had expected Gunther to namedrop one of Hart’s biggest rivals, Shawn Michaels, instead.
