Gunther made sure to dump on Italy for not even qualifying for this year's FIFA World Cup.

Gunther would never want to look back on his time in Italy that saw him lose back-to-back matches for the Undisputed WWE Championship. ‘The Ring General’ vlogged his experience in the bordering country of his motherland of Austria, and he didn’t miss out on trolling Italy for failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As one could see in the post below, the Vienna-born wrestler could be heard saying that he was qualified to compete for a world championship, unlike Italy. He also went to a local store to probably buy the Austrian national team jersey, but he couldn’t find his size and complained about Italians being small.
‘The Career Killer’ was also heard talking about undoing the injustice from Clash in Italy. For the unversed, the referee’s error of judgment cost Gunther the WWE title match against Rhodes. The erstwhile Walter placed his foot under the bottom rope after being hit by a Cross Rhodes, but the referee couldn’t spot it from his vantage point and completed the pinfall anyway.
It handed Cody Rhodes the win. ‘The QB1’ seemed over the moon with the result in that moment while Gunther was in shambles. The latter kept arguing with referee Dan Engler, but to no avail. Gunther and Rhodes went at it once again during a live event in Rome the same night from the aforementioned vlog.
After losing that rematch, Gunther affirmed that he wouldn’t be coming back to Italy to wrestle again. He said he might return on a vacation but definitely not to wrestle. That being said, it was all from Gunther’s day in Rome, and he hoped that the fans were suffering a little with him.
Gunther set for WWE title rematch against Cody Rhodes with Sami Zayn lurking
WWE was in Bologna this past Friday for SmackDown, the opening of which saw Gunther holding the show hostage. ‘The Ring General’ was absolutely pissed off by the turn of events at Clash in Italy, and he dismantled some furniture before declaring he wouldn’t leave until justice was served.
The former leader of Imperium got his wish fulfilled later on in the show when Rhodes told Nick Aldis in a backstage segment that he was still willing to bestow a rematch on Gunther.

The SmackDown GM informed the champ that ‘The Ring General’ would reveal a stipulation pertaining to their title match this Friday. While Rhodes didn’t have any issue with that, the former AEW EVP set a date for his title defense on the 06/19 episode of SmackDown in Kansas City. ‘The American Nightmare’ has one other problem in the form of Sami Zayn as well.
Rhodes inadvertently took out Zayn, with the latter being thrown into the crossfire by Gunther in a brawl that broke out on SmackDown last Friday. The former ‘Honorary Uce’ thought it was intentional and even lashed out at WWE’s social media platforms for claiming it was merely an accident. Rhodes’ differences with Zayn had started to develop a few months ago.
‘The Last Real Good Guy’ asserted that his friendship with ‘The QB1’ had degraded due to the WWE Champion repeatedly blowing him off instead of talking it out sensibly. It’s obvious that WWE is looking to insert Zayn into the world title picture, with Rhodes and Gunther already fighting for the top prize.
The upcoming title match is expected to pave the way for a three-way showdown featuring Rhodes, Gunther, and Zayn at the Night of Champions PLE in Saudi Arabia.
