The burgeoning rivalry between Bill Goldberg and Gunther broke new ground on this week’s Raw. In a befitting response to the WWE Hall of Famer’s sit-down interview with Michael Cole, ‘The Ring General’ cut a resounding promo. Goldberg told Cole that he’s going to make the World Heavyweight Champ pay for disrespecting him in front of his family and adopted hometown of Atlanta last year at Bad Blood.

The WCW icon even dropped an F-bomb, saying he’s going to “beat the f**k out of Gunther” at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. In response, the Austrian mentioned that Goldberg was the most destructive wrestler of his generation, but this isn’t 1999 anymore. The erstwhile Walter affirmed that he’s the most dominant wrestler across the entire WWE roster now.

It’s my personal responsibility to make sure that the legacy and the myth of Bill Goldberg forever dies.

Gunther said that his perception of Goldberg being a 58-year-old one-trick pony who couldn’t lace his boots would never change. Last but certainly not least, the Vienna-born grappler took a moment to apologize to the WWE legend’s wife and son for what he’s about to do to the man who used to be Goldberg.

The Ring General asserted that he embarrassed the WWE HOF’er once at Bad Blood, and he’s going to emulate it at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Moreover, Gunther added that it was his personal responsibility to ensure that the myth and legacy of Bill Goldberg died. It’s worth noting that the live crowd in Ohio was behind their world champ as he was trashing down on the veteran vying for his retirement match.

Tommy Dreamer explains what went wrong with Goldberg’s response to Gunther on Raw

The fans witnessed both Goldberg and Gunther putting forth their respective views about each other in different segments on Raw. One of the ECW originals in Tommy Dreamer proffered his two cents on both while speaking on the Busted Open Radio podcast. Dreamer was slightly critical of Goldberg’s sit-down conversation with Michael Cole, in which the WWE legend maintained an intense cadence while bashing his nemesis.

‘The King of Extreme’ believes that Goldberg should’ve been more humble while coming up with his rationale of going after ‘The Ring General’ in his last-ever WWE match. Dreamer had his trepidations about the fans perceiving him as the bad guy in this situation with how arrogant he seemed during that promo. And guess what? ‘The Innovator of Violence’ wasn’t surprised by seeing the fans cheering Gunther when he was dumping on the 58-year-old.

The ECW great explained that Goldberg could’ve presented a more reserved and laid-back version of himself. It would’ve definitely given the fans a reason to root for a man who’s almost 60 and is just back for a match to defend his family’s honor. Dreamer also hoped that the former defensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons doesn’t get booed in his last match.

Jey Uso’s hopes of title rematch against Gunther dashed on Raw

Gunther regained the World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso three weeks ago. The 37-year-old made The Yeet Master pass out to a sleeper hold in one of the most unpredictable title changes in recent memory. With that win, ‘The Ring General’ avenged his embarrassing loss against Uso at WrestleMania 41.

So now that Gunther is going up against Goldberg next month, Uso said that he wanted his arch-rival to dispose of ‘The Icon.’ Why is that so? It’s because the former Right Hand Man to Roman Reigns was gunning for his rematch against the Austrian for the world title.

This week on Raw, Uso lost to Cody Rhodes in a tightly-contested King of the Ring tournament semifinal showdown. The loss is expected to knock the San Francisco native to the back of the line as far as his aspirations of regaining the world title are concerned.
