“I had to get out of the elite world”: Suni Lee gains even more NCAA success

Suni Lee

Suni Lee’s career has been quite the spectacular one, even as she just enters as a freshman in at Auburn University. She competes on the Tigers team at the collegiate level, and has recently been gaining much success at NCAA championships.

Hardly a normal college freshman, Lee already has her eyes set on the 2024 Paris Olympics.“Even without the NIL, I knew I wanted to go to college anyway just because I had to come find my love for the sport again,” Lee said to marshallindependent.com“I had to get out of the elite world just because it is so different. This is so much more fun, and having the team be so supportive.”

Lee has helped lead the Tigers into the NCAA national championships for the first time since 2016. She scored her fifth perfect 10 of the season, after a spectacular balance beam performance.

“It is something I want to prove to myself”: Suni Lee finds her success at collegiate level

While Lee is competing at collegiate level, she thinks she has a lot to prove. Lee’s gold medal came only after Simone Biles withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Lee said that she has suffered with imposter syndrome after the Olympics, and that she had to work very hard to get back into the game.

I think it’s something I just want to prove to myself, because I think I have a lot of doubters. I don’t want to look back and be like, I could have done so much more. I want to look back and know I gave it everything I had and if I didn’t succeed, I didn’t. But I gave it my all,” said Lee.

Lee has also been on Dancing with the Stars, and has been coping with her sudden increase in fame. Her tough as nails mentality is what makes her successful, say her coach Jeff Graba.
