“It’s hard to understand how much pressure she is under”: Suni Lee reunited with former Olympic teammates at NCAA Championships

Suni Lee will become the first Olympic individual all-around gold medallist to compete at the NCAA Championships next week. Needless to say, she will be seeing a few familiar faces from the Olympics next week.

Lee, who is currently attending Auburn, led the Tigers to a second place finish last week at the regionals on Saturday. This ensured their first NCAA team appearance since 2016. Lee scored her fifth perfect 10 score of the season, with a spectacular beam routine. It was a big comeback for Suni Lee, especially after the difficulties with imposter syndrome after the Tokyo Olympics. Lee said that she hated gymnastics for quite a few weeks and did not feel like going to practice.

“It’s hard to get you guys to understand, to get anybody to understand, the pressure she’s under,” Auburn coach Jeff Graba said according to olympics.nbc. Auburn will join Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Utah.

Tokyo Olympian Grace McCallum will be competing in Utah, while Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles have qualified to compete individually. Carey, the Tokyo Olympic floor champion, qualified for the all-around event. Chiles on the other hand, made floor and bars.

Women from the last six Olympic teams have competed collegiately, including gold medalists Kyla Ross and Madison Kocian.
