With her spectacular performance at her maiden 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles stormed onto the scene, winning 5 medals in total, of which four were gold. Simone was unstoppable since, and the same level of dominance was expected from the American. As the 2020 Tokyo Olympics came up, the American team looked the favourite to win.

However, during the team competition, Biles decided to astonishingly pull out. She pulled out of all her individual events expect for the balance beam, in which she gold bronze. Later it was known that Biles had a case of the “twisties” and was having a hard time keeping up under pressure. Since then Simone Biles has been a great advocate of mental health, especially amongst athletes. She recently gave advise to young women.

Biles said that she has always tried to remain true to herself amidst all the fame, gymnastics and awards that she receives. Biles believes that she will firmly stand on her own. “And if I ever put my mind to something, then going after that, not changing who I am, having courage to speak up, speak out, even if you’re the only one doing that.”

She especially talked about staying away from the effect of social media in today’s world, which can be very daunting.
