“Halfway-in in the locker room,” Kyrie Irving takes a subtle jab at former-teammate James Harden for giving up on the Nets
Kyrie Irving Vs. James Harden
In an unexpected turn of events, Kyrie Irving has taken a subtle jab at his former teammate James Harden for quitting on the Brooklyn Nets. In a recent interview, Irving criticized Harden’s commitment to the team and accused him of giving up too soon on the season. Irving’s comments did not outrightly say that Harden quit on the Nets, instead he took a sly jab at the former MVP for how he handled the situation.
Irving — understandably — might not be the most pleased with Harden’s demeanour and his handling of the whole thing. Kyrie was out and he couldn’t play because of the vaccine mandate and Kevin Durant was injured. In the midst of that situation, James Harden left the Nets high and dry. After all that, it kind of makes sense as to why Irving would be at the point where he wanted to take a sly dig at Harden.
Kyrie was asked about what he thinks is different about the Nets this year as compared to last year in handling KD’s absence, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to slyly hint at Harden’s off-court theatrics. “Well I’m consistently in the lineup, that helps. We also don’t have anyone who is halfway in in the locker room.” said the point guard. The “halfway in” comment is obviously about the lack of commitment from Harden to the team.
It’s no secret that Irving and Harden have had a tumultuous relationship ever since the Nets blew up. With Harden being frustrated at Kyrie not being a reliable enough teammate and Kyrie being disappointed in the way Harden left.
Kyrie and Harden were an elite duo for the Nets
The duo of Kyrie Irving and James Harden played 25 games for the Brooklyn Nets without Kevin Durant. In those 25 games, the Nets had a record of 26-9 in those games. Over an 82-game season, that is a pace of 59 wins. Individually, they also thrived with Harden playing point guard and Irving playing shooting guard.
Harden averaged 23/8/10, distributing the ball all over the place and being the engine of a humming Nets offense. Irving, on the other hand, was as dominant a scorer as he’s ever been. With averages of 29/5/6 on a near 50-40-90 efficiency, Harden’s playmaking with Irving’s scoring was a terrifying prospect for NBA defences.
