Hansi Flick set to quit Bayern Munich job at the end of the season
Hansi Flick leaves Bayern Munich
Hansi Flick has confirmed his decision of leaving Bayern Munich after his side’s 3-1 victory against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Flick is set to take over the Germany head coach job after the Euros this summer.
Bayern Munich were recently eliminated from the UEFA Champions league on away goals against Paris in the quarter final stages. He has already informed club bosses in mid-week about his decision, and told the players after Saturday’s game.
Hansi Flick has won 6 trophies so far during his time at Bayern Munich
“I told the team today that I informed the club during the week after the game in Paris that I would like to terminate my contract at the end of the season,” Flick told Sky Germany.
“It was important to me that the team heard it from me. I am very grateful that I was allowed to accompany the team.”
Hansi Flick was appointed manager of Bayern Munich in 2019 and took over the job from Nico Kovac and had a contract till 2023. The Bundesliga giants won the treble in Flick’s first season at the club and became only the second club in history to record a sextuple after Pep Guardiola’s famed Barcelona side.
Hansi Flick has registered only 8 defeats in the 81 matches that he has overseen at the club so far.
Flick’s next destination is as yet unclear but, ever since Joachim Löw confirmed that we would be stepping down as German national team coach after this summer’s European Championship, the favorite to succeed him has been his former World Cup winning assistant.
“My future is absolutely not clear,” insisted Flick. “Of course the national team is an option every coach has to consider. I have to digest everything, the last few weeks weren’t easy.”
